ALECTIA has acquired British Penborn Technical Services. Penborn are consulting engineers specialising in the hygienic process industry with strong skills within breweries, dairies and foodstuff industries. The acquisition is motivated by a need for resources to meet a growing demand on brewery and dairy consulting. ALECTIA’s 800 employees provide solutions to a large global client portfolio, e.g. breweries, dairies, water supplies and pharmaceutical companies. The acquisition of Penborn is ALECTIA’s first international acquisition, motivated by the fact that more than 25% of ALECTIA's turnover is now generated outside Denmark.
Penborn’s owners have opted to sell the company as senior management are approaching retirement and wish to ensure the company's future. CEO of Penborn, Arthur Jamieson, explains: “In ALECTIA we see the new perfect owner who can take Penborn further, ensuring our company and our employees in the future. Backed by ALECTIA’s organisation and a wider range of skills we will be able to provide better and more integrated solutions to our clients.”
Together the two companies offer a powerful combination of skills and services benefiting an impressive roster of clients including global companies such as Carlsberg, SAB Miller and Arla. CEO of ALECTIA Ingelise Bogason explains: “Since ALECTIA is much larger than Penborn and our range of services covers the whole value chain, it is obvious that following the acquisition, ALECTIA and Penborn will create joint project teams. We have a well established knowledge of working across boarders. We already have had a number of projects with a global reach where employees in Denmark together with colleagues posted abroad have been working effectively on projects in far away places such as Kazakhstan and Australia using the opportunities of the modern communications technologies.”
Demand for engineers
For ALECTIA the acquisition is motivated by a shortage of process engineers in Denmark, as Ingelise Bogason makes clear: “Penborn has excellent technical consultants, which are solving a problem for ALECTIA: We are not able to hire enough skilled process engineers in Denmark, and by the acquisition of Penborn we have a great opportunity to use our new London office as a centre for recruiting more international specialists.” Penborn will as of the 1st of August 2008 be renamed ALECTIA Limited.
